Mighty Josh - CANVAS EDITION

From the New York Times Best-Selling book, "WE ARE THE SHIP: The Story of Negro League Baseball," by Kadir Nelson, the intimidating slugger, Josh Gibson (sometimes called "The Black Babe Ruth"), stands tall, partially illuminated by the late afternoon sun in front of his home dugout, swinging three bats, taunting the pitcher, Satchel Paige, as he awaits his turn at bat. As he steps our of the shodow, Gibson watches Paige deliver a pitch to batter, Buck Leonard. Frank Duncan crouches behind home plate inside the sprawling grounds of Griffith Stadium in Washington DC, circa 1943.
